English Fusee Skeleton Clock Signed "H. Wehrle & Co."
About the Item
Charming original condition complete with mahogany veneered base of good light colour and covered with faded gold velvet. Original glass dome.
Eight-day fusee movement with semi-deadbeat escapement. The escape wheel, the small wheel at the end and top of the train, is particularly fine and delicate but all the wheels are nicely crossed-out and of light construction. The lyres shaped plates are well balanced with good proportions. The skeletonised brass dial is pierced-out to the same high standard as the rest of the clock, which has then been engraved, filled with wax and silvered. The movement is fitted with a pendulum hold-fast bridge and knurled nut at the back for secure transportation.

Henry Wehrle & Co are recorded as working at 82 Whitechapel High Street from 1849-51 before moving to 271 Whitechapel Road.
