Fine George III Mahogany Tall Case Clock by William Barker 8 Day Time and Strike
About the Item
A fine George III mahogany longcase clock with a four pillar 8 day anchor escapement movement, rack strike on bell, made and signed by William Barker of Wigan, circa 1780. The 13" brass dial is decorated with foliate scroll spandrels with a silvered Roman and Arabic numerals chapter ring. The hatch engraved center is further fitted with subsidiary seconds ring and date aperture, cut steel hands, and signed on two silvered banner plaques above Barker/Wigan with painted rolling moon. Complete with pendulum and 2 lead weights.
William Barker was a highly respected clockmaker and examples of his work can be found in the British and Victoria and Albert museums.
