Georgian Oak and Mahogany Longcase Clock by Thomas Crawshaw, Rotherham

About the Item

Georgian Oak and Mahogany Longcase clock. The case is made from the finest English oak and crossbanded with mahogany, it has reeded canted corners either side of the trunk door also with reeded pillars either side of the hood door with brass capitals and swan-neck pediment above. The dial is unusual in being round, it is beautifully decorated to a very high standard with a peacock featured in the centre, Roman numerals and finely cut hands, signed Thomas Crawshaw, Rotherham. The movement is of thirty hour duration supported between two brass plates, striking the hours on a large bell. C.1790 Thomas Crawshaw born 1769 son of James Crawshaw of Barnsley (Yorkshire) working in Rotherham c.1790-1795. James Crawshaw born 1740 son of William Crawshaw (Barnsley) married 1756.
