Louis XVI Style Clock in Gilded Bronze and Porcelain, Late 19th Century
About the Item
Louis XVI style table clock in chiseled and gilt bronze.
The case is in “architectural drawing” style shape, adorned with porcelain plates decorated with baskets of flowers in white cartouches framed with celeste blue. This special blue is famous; this color was originally created in 1753 by the Vincennes Manufacture (later re-named the Royal Sèvres Manufacture) for a Louis XV porcelain service.
Glass ais decorated with a ribbon frieze, the base is adorned with an acanthus leaves frieze standing on other acanthus leaves in full round sculpture.
The dial-plate is round, capped with full round sculptures representing birds, a basket of flowers and garlands of plants.
The dial plate houses a mechanism is signed GUILLON, BORDEAUX, he has one range of blue Roman numerals for hours and the second range of Arabic numerals is for minutes; the mechanism is working.
