18th Century French Louis XVI Marble & Gilt Bronze Portico Clock C. Bertrand
About the Item
A monumental 18th Century Portico clock signed by Charles Bertrand. It is of the classical style of Louis XVI, made of white marble mounted with ormolu decoration. The movement is held aloft on four marble pillars. To the top is a finial with swags of floral foliage surrounding the clock. The dial is painted in white, contrasting the hour markers and minutes which are in black and gold. There are three keyholes to wind up the internal mechanism. The case is open backed revealing the inner workings. Signed "Charles Bertrand, RÜE MONTMARTRE A PARIS".
