19th Century Antique Regency Mahogany Bracket Clock by Thomas Moss of London

About the Item

A good Regency period mahogany hour striking bracket clock. The lancet style case with pierced brass side frets, lion and ring side handles and claw feet. The circular silvered and engraved dial signed “Thos Moss London 228.” The double fusee movement with engraved boarder to the backplate and signed within an oval “Thos Moss London 228”. With anchor escapement and hour strike on a bell.

A fine Regency longcase clock in the form of a domestic regulator in an architectural mahogany case with inset panels of satinwood and ebonized mouldings. The case of this clock shows the distinct influence of Thomas Hope, the eminent antiquarian and designer who was inspired by the Greek and Egyptian designs. The 12in square brass dial has a silvered finish and is engraved with Roman chapters and subsidiary second’s dial. The dial is signed within the lower section 'Barwise, London'. The eight day duration movement is of the highest quality, with five pillars, dead beat escapement, maintaining power and hour strike on a bell. The pendulum has a wood rod for temperature compensation with beat adjustment and rating nut beneath the brass bob. The clock is complete with the original brass cased weights.
