19th Century French Louis XVI Style Ormolu and White Marble Boudoir Clock Set

A beautiful 19th Century French Louis XVI Ormolu and White Carrara Boudoir Clock with Pair of Candelabras. This antique French ormolu-mounted white marble boudoir clock, circa 1880. It's of elegant Louis XVI style, classical columns wrapped with foliage and an urn to the top with handles and a floral finial. Porcelain enamelled dial, underside of the dial decorated with a drapery element, pedestal decorated with a frieze of palmettes. The movement is of high quality and is in very good antique condition. Pendulum is original. Condition of the case is excellent, the ormolu is beautifully clean and bright with some slight wear. The marble is also very good with a good color and polish. The dial is also in excellent condition. This set includes a pair of antique French Louis XVI style candelabras dating from circa 1880. Made in crisp white Carrara marble and ormolu (finely gilded bronze doré). The bases have scrolled brackets and a floral swag. A classical urn supports the three branches formed of scrolling acanthus. Condition is excellent, the original gilding is beautifully clean and bright with some age appropriate wear. Unmodified original movement. This decorative clock set, interesting for its technicality has kept a perfect authenticity and is a remarkable conservational piece. Clock is still functioning well, but will need adjustment after shipping as all clocks generally do. Measures: Overall height 43 cm

    12 of 19 A very large and fine antique French clock set, circa 1880. It is of Rococo design in the manner of Juste Aurele Meissonier and boldly modeled in gilt bronze. Waisted keyhole shape with acanthus leaf shoulders, 'C' scroll feet standing on its original integral serpentine base. To the top is a putti and a musical instrument. To the sides, are cloth backed sound frets. The large dial is porcelain. The design is attributed to by the highly inventive and influential rococo goldsmith and architect Juste-Aurèle Meissonnier (1695-1750). Born in Turin, Meissonnier emigrated to France to work in the royal Gobelins factory in 1724 and in 1726 succeeded Jean II Bérain as architect and draughtsman to the Chambre et Cabinet du Roi. His designs for candelabra and other objects appear in the Dousieme livre des Oeuvres de J. A. Messonnier, Livre de Chandeliers de Sculpture en Argent published by Gabriel Huquier in the 1740s.
