About the Item
A stunning 19th century French Sevres mantel clock in the baluster shape. style baluster shaped mantel clock. The neck adorned with a two painted oval portraits of elegant ladies. Each portrait captures the grace and beauty of the ladies with intricate brush strokes and vibrant colors.Centred by an enamel dial with Roman and Arabic chapters and pierced gilt hands, planked by painted floating cupids holding floral garlands. The domed lid with an acanthus-bud finial. This piece of beautiful artistry transports you to the world of the French royal court.
The reverse marked with interlaced L's.s
The movement stamped: S. Marti et Cie (Samuel Marti & Co.) a well-known clock makers in Paris at the mid-19th century. The stamp "Medaille de Bronze" refers to an award given to the company in 1860, and this mark was used on their movements from 1867-1900.
