About the Item

This impactful and elegant Art Deco Tessellated Marble,onyx & Brass Mantlepiece Clock signed Ucra originates from France, Circa 1935. Featuring an arched composition in two varieties of variegated marble with a two part tiered plinth base on either low corner of the clock's body, elevating and providing a sense of vertical movement to this primarily horizontal mantlepiece clock. The two tones are marble are balanced beautifully across the piece, one a deep black hue with orange gold veining and the other a jade green onyx with rose pink venining, exquisitely tessellated without discernible seems and in perfect condition. The face is housed with custom formed glass mirroring the overall shape of the clock, with golden brass, black Art Deco lettering, and a diagonally checkered textured pattern in the center, where the hands of the clock emerge, including a curved groove and a round opening from which the piece is wound. The protective glass is set in a brass frame with a fluted handle allowing for ease of opening, all highly functional and with smooth mechanisms. Bearing the signature of the Company "Ucra" on the front of the piece beneath the protective glass, a company well regarded for clocks of this kind and who brilliantly pioneered and utilized the design elements of the Art Deco era. This clock will style beautifully in a wide array of spaces and settings, from Art Deco to Mid-Century Modernist and Contemporary Interiors. Fully functional and in Excellent Vintage Condition.
