French gilt bronze and faience clock set in the chinoiserie style
French, late 19th century
Clock: Height 52cm, width 43cm, depth 18cm
Candelabra: Height 53cm, width 26cm, depth 18cm
This wonderful clock set, comprised of a mantel clock and two candelabra, is crafted from beautiful French faience mounted with superbly cast and gilt bronze. The set is designed in the distinctive French Chinoiserie style.
The mantel clock features a body crafted from faience, the faience decorated all over with traditional Chinese motifs. The front of the faience case is set with the dial, which is enumerated with Chinese numeral hour indices. The faience body is raised on a superb gilt bronze base designed in a Chinese manner and mounted with twin dragons, while the top of the case is set with a gilt bronze finial.
The pair of candelabra is similarly decorated, each featuring a faience body and gilt bronze bases. Each candelabrum features five scrolled gilt bronze branches arranged in a tier about a central stem.
