About the Item

French Boulle Tortoiseshell mantel clock in a beautifully decorated ‘Bombe’ shaped case with ormolu mounts surmounted by eight gilded finials. Thuret is listed in Watchmakers and Clockmakers of the world by Brian Loomes as working in Paris circa 1855-1900. The Thuret family had a long tradition of fine clockmakers working in the city of Paris dating back to 1669. Isaac Thuret (1669-1700) was clockmaker to Louis XIV and to the Paris observatory. Members of the same family were still making clocks in Paris until circa 1930.
