French Porcelain Mantel clock by Raingo Freres, Paris French porcelain mantel clock housed in an arch top case with raised stepped plinth and resting on scroll feet. Outstanding hand painted panel to the front with gilt surround depicting two maidens attending a fatally wounded knight. Beautifully decorated to all sides with flowers, birds and butterfly on a white ground with gilt decorative border to the plinth. Chased gilded bezel, silvered dial with Roman numerals and original ‘blued’ steel Moonpoise hands signed Raingo Fres, a Paris. French eight day movement with silk suspension, anchor escapement and outside countwheel, striking the hours and halves on a silvered bell. The backplate signed Raingo Fres, a Paris and numbered 301. This is a lovely antique French ormolu, gilt bronze, mantel clock with Bleu Celeste Sevres porcelain panels, by the renowned maker, Raingo Freres, Paris, circa 1850 in date. The clock features a beautifully cast pair of ormolu cherubs surmounted with game, to include fish, boar and pheasant, above a circular enamel dial with Arabic and Roman numerals. The dial is flanked by porcelain panels with gilt highlights, depicting playful cherubs. The clock has an 8 day striking movement and is complete with pendulum, bell and key. This incredible clock is a must have for any collector of ornamental and decorative pieces. Condition: The clock is in really excellent working condition the movement having been cleaned and serviced by our horologist, and the ormolu case having been polished, please see photos for confirmation.
