French 19th Century Louis XVI St. Cobalt Blue Porcelain and Ormolu Clock
About the Item
A striking and most elegant French 19th century Louis XVI st. cobalt blue porcelain and ormolu clock. The clock is raised by a square ormolu base with cut corners with fine rosettes and recessed hammered plaques. At the center is the striking white enameled clock face with pierced foliate hands, Roman numeral hour markings, and Arabic numeral minute markers with a lovely beaded bezel. The body displays exquisite swaging berried laurel garlands tied at the center with a charming ribbon and connected to striking richly chased ram's heads at each side amidst fine rosettes and fluted designs. Above is the impressive cobalt blue porcelain urn, likely by Sèvres, adorned with magnificent foliate floral swaging garlands connecting scrolled handles at each side with richly chased central wrap around fluted Les Oves and foliate bands, and a top floral finial. All original gilt throughout.
