About the Item

Gorgeous 25 inches (!) tall hand carved and gold leaf floral motive Rococo clock made in 1 copy ca 1950 by Westerstrand or Westerstrand Urfabrik Aktiebolag, one of Töreboda's oldest and best-known companies. This timeless clock is a gorgeous tribute to a bygone era and sure to be the centerpiece of any room. It was Yngve Westerstrand who set up a watchmaking workshop in 1906, before that he had worked for his father, Gustav, as a watchmaker. The company started as a watchmaker in a premises at Kungsgatan 4. Yngve Westerstrand started making replacement parts for watches. After a while he started making tower and station clocks. In 1936, the manufacture of wall clocks and pendulum clocks started. Westerstrands was the first factory in the country to produce pendulum clocks. A large factory building was erected in 1941 at Skövdevägen, along the western main line. The company manufactured timers for sports halls, central clock systems, switch clocks and more. Parts for carillons were also manufactured, for example for the cathedrals in Drammen and Visby, the old town hall in Kiruna and others. Westerstrands Urfabrik went bankrupt in 1983. Size app.: 63.5 cm (roughly 25 in) high, 42 cm (roughly 16.5 in) wide, 24 cm (roughly 9.5 in) deep. Very good condition, with age and usage wear, gold finish retouches (see carefully photo of item), movement is running and it strikes on 121 gramm bronze bell – but we don’t guarantee accuracy of time and functionality overall. Please study good resolution images for overall cosmetic condition.
