Marble Clock by E. Howard.
About the Item
The lower glass tablet is reverse painted black with gilded border and stars. The case is stamped #17 and the back of the marble face is also numbered 17.
The eight day brass works is die stamped E Howard & Co. Boston. The clock is driven by a lead weight and gilded wood pendulum rod. The pendulum bob is zinc covered with a ring decorated brass face.
This clock is unusual and convenient in that all operations; winding, adjusting time and starting the pendulum can be done without opening the clock. There is a lever at the bottom to flick the pendulum back in motion.
The marble measures 30 inches in length. This is a rare transitional size that falls between two sizes recorded in the E. Howard catalogs. Model No.27 is 35 inches while Model No. 28 is 28 inches.
This clock dates to circa 1875.
