Unusual Swedish Early 19th Century Empire Wall Cartel Clock by Cederlund
About the Item
An unusual Swedish Empire giltwood striking wall clock from the early 19th century. The white painted Arabic dial signed by the clockmaker ‘Jon. Cederlund Stockholm’ (Jonas Cederlund 1768-1857). The clock is surmounted by a military trophy with a helmet, bow, quiver and laurel leaves. The dial is flanked by two fully carved figures of Apollo and Athena, standing on pedestals with a central mask of Medusa. The lower part of the clock case is ornate with a shell and accanthus leaves.
The eight day movement, strike on bell, has been professionally revised and is in working condition.
