Rare Tunbridge Ware Book Tray c1870
About the Item
Heading : Tunbridge ware book tray
Date : c1870
Period : Victoria
Origin : Tunbridge Wells Kent.
Decoration : Central foliate mosaic within a foliate border with keylines. THere is ia foliate band closer to the front of the tray with geometric borders also within keylines. The side panesl decorate dwith OXO style bands and a chainlink pattern to the front. Two turned wood handles.
Size : 39x25.5cm, 11.5cm height
Condition : There are some stable splits to the side panels, otherwise minimal and a small section of missing tesserae behind the left handle
Restoration : None
Weight : 1060 grams
The banding to the borders is typical of Edmund Nye's work.This is functional and rather beautiful.
