Tomado Holland Mid-Century-Modern Metal Desk Office Paper Waste Basket

About the Item

A functional 1960s Mid-Century-Modern desk accessory, office waste-basket designed by Tomado, Holland. The oval shape boasts a light gray metal structure with a typical polychrome modernist design of exotic fishes in purple, pink, and red colors. The marking of company logo is embossed on the underside. This desk accessory is in its original usable and well-kept condition. The inside looks clean. Some minor stains are visible, mainly in the bottom area. Three tiny dents are visible on the edge, and a fold line appears on the side depending on how the waste basket is exposed to the light. Check all the close-ups and the one with the red arrow. Measurements: 10.25 in wide (26 cm) x 7.69 in deep (19.5 cm) x 10.44 in high (26.5 cm). Note: Tomado was established in 1923 by Dutch brothers Jan and Wim Van der Togt in the small town of Dordrecht. The company initially specialized in producing copper hooks and other simple homewares. By the mid-20th century, Tomado had become one of Holland's leading producers of innovative products for the modern home. Tomado is a company of Dutch origin that has existed for almost 100 years. Since its beginnings, the company produced the most diverse household items recognized for their quality, reliability, and functionality. What characterizes them above all? Their simplicity. Renowned designer Gerrit Rietveld praised it, citing Tomado as an example of Dutch design excellence. And even after a hundred years of existence, the brand still does not compromise on design and value for money. Tomado broke through in the 1950s with its innovative shelving system. The company collaborates with designers like Adriaan Dekker to create their renowned modular shelves. Modular and practical such was the goal for this production. This concept worked as expected. Among collectors, this is considered one of the most desirable vintage classics. Beyond the iconic shelves, the company developed, during the 1950s/1960s/1970s, office accessories, and modular metal furniture in the typical mid-century style. The furniture and decorative objects created by Tomado embody both the simplicity of industrial design and the modernity of the style of the time.
