From our Accessories collection, we are pleased to offer this Antique English Silver & Tortoiseshell Inkwell. The Inkwell of globular shape with a quilt cut glass body mounted with a circular silver and tortoiseshell lid. The inkwell sits inside an oval shaped tortoiseshell base with a scrolling silver mount. The Silver is hallmarked to the GY & Co for Grey and Co, Sterling Silver, London and is Dated 1907 late Victorian, Art Nouveau period. The desk set is like to have been retailed at Asprey & Co of London as Grey & Co were known suppliers to Asprey for their silver accessories.

Grey & Co founded in London by William Grey in 1876, they were noted for their novelties in silver and were regular suppliers to Asprey & Co London.

Art Nouveau was an international style of art and architecture, especially the decorative arts. It was inspired by natural forms such as the curves of plants and flowers. It was popular between 1890 and 1910 during the Belle Époque period and before the First World War. It was a reaction against the academic art, eclecticism and historicism of 19th century architecture and decoration.
