Early Villeroy & Boch Stoneware Inkstand
About the Item
An extremely scarce early Villeroy & Boch pottery deskset stand. The pristine German antique, circa 1860, was masterfully handcrafted in Mettlach during the third quarter of the 19th century. Modeled as naturalistic grapevines, reminiscent of chamberstick form, the parcel gilt inkstand has three inserts, including an inkwell and pounce pot/ sander. Gorgeous detail and color, glazed, silver luster, openwork, shaped, the list goes on, truly a spectacular work of art. Hallmark on reverse, seal style, reads "121" "VB". This unique seal was only in use for a short time, dating the piece to 1852-1873.
