About the Item

Open letters by Alfred Jorel Origin France Circa 1915 Gilded bronze Art nouveau style Excellent condition with some wear due to age. Jorel was a student of the sculptor Jean Carlus. He made bronze, ivory and chryselephantine figurines, as well as ivory jewelry in the Art Nouveau and Art Deco styles. Many of Jorel's characters show children in everyday situations, but he also depicts religious themes. He became a member of the Société des Artistes Français in 1896 and exhibited in the society's salons. Here he received the bronze medal in 1907. Alfred Jorel was the father of the painter Alfred Jorel junior, who painted views of Paris in the 20th century and exhibited at the salon of the Société des Artistes Indépendants in Paris.
