Pair of stirrups. Carved wood, iron. Chile, 18th century.

About the Item

Pair of stirrups. Carved wood, iron. Chile, 18th century. Pair of stirrups made up of a carved wooden block, in the shape of a crescent on the front, and decorated on the outside with geometric and vegetal elements, and a surrounding piece of iron. By reserving metal for other uses during the 18th century, wood began to be used more frequently to make stirrups in Chile. The shape of this pair, which follows a typical typology of the time, seems to have derived from Asturian pieces, preferred over metal stirrups to protect against water, branches, etc., being the artisanal development exercised above all by the Jesuits in the area which led to this type of carvings and ornaments, which survive to the present day. · Size: 16x20x17 cm International Buyers – Please Note: for those articles that need Export Permits (those older than 100 years), the obtaining of the Permit will be processed without additional expenses (if you choose the seller sends it to you), but the period for the obtention of it may vary from 10 to 35 days.
