Venetian Bronze Hand Bell with God Mercury, 16th Century
$1,800

About
This bronze bell is of the type cast in Venice in the 16th century. It is topped with a figure of Mercury surmounting a procession of putti with garlands and a blank cartouche. It measures 7" high with a 4" diameter. The working clapper makes a pleasant sound. There is overall wear to this casting and a rich dark brown patination to the bronze.
Comparison is made to bells cast by Joseph de Levis (1552-1611/14).
