About the Item

A very beautiful replica of the classical Roman sarcophagus, made as a grand tour piece it has inside all the accents of roman heritage; in fact the curved and shaped signs on the front represent the life and the vase in the front sounds as an allegory of the fortune and of the well life. Giancarlo pace was born in Rome in 1937 and he was during his artistic life influenced by the classical Roman and classical Greek art, he was a member of common called " roman school" that was mostly knew for the productions of portraits of emperors classical Roman and Greek art, gran tour and neoclassical pieces mostly of them made in marble and also in specimen and rare marbles. The grand tour had become a regular feature of aristocratic education in Central Europe, as well, although it was restricted to the higher nobility. The tradition declined as enthusiasm for neoclassical culture waned, and with the advent of accessible rail and steamship travel—an era in which Thomas cook made the "Cook's Tour" of early mass tourism a byword. The New York Times in 2008 described the grand tour in this way: Three hundred years ago, wealthy young Englishmen began taking a post-Oxbridge trek through France and Italy in search of art, culture and the roots of western civilization. With nearly unlimited funds, aristocratic connections and months (or years) to roam, they commissioned paintings, perfected their language skills and mingled with the upper crust of the Continent. The primary value of the grand tour lay in its exposure to the cultural legacy of classical antiquity and the renaissance, and to the aristocratic and fashionably polite society of the European continent. In addition, it provided the only opportunity to view specific works of art, and possibly the only chance to hear certain music.
