Belle Epoque ~ Tromp L'éoel Paperweight Ashtray w/ Cigarette & Match-Striker Holder in form of a Glove Patinated Bronze France, ca. 1880s ABOUT Made in France in the last quarter of 19th Century, this casually thrown men's soft kid glove creates the full impression of a three-dimensional object; in fact, being almost completely flat (not counting the voluminous oval cuff, serving as cigarette & match-striker holder) extremely unusual patinated-bronze paperweightashtray done in the manner of Tromp L'éoel (French for 'deceive the eye'); an artistic term for the highly realistic optical illusion of three-dimensional space and objects on a two-dimensional surface.
