An exceptional fine and impressive antique George V English sterling silver paperweight / letter clip made by Mappin & Webb Ltd; an addition to our ornamental silverware collection. This exceptional antique George V English sterling silver letter clip/paperweight has a plain rectangular, beveled form. The surface of the base is plain and unembellished. The surface of the clip is ornamented with an embossed log design, incorporating wood grain and accented with a cast and applied bear to the upper portion. The base and letter clip are connected with a functional sprung hinge, which surmounts a further log design. This exceptional example of antique silverware retains the original leatherette covering to the underside of the weighted base; the base further features the registration number 'RD569390'. Condition This antique paperweight in sterling silver is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional condition. The piece has been professionally polished and is in presentation condition. There is some staining the original leatherette covering to the underside, in keeping with age and use. Full hallmarks struck to the surface of the base and part hallmarks to the reverse of the clip are all very clear.
