19th Century Oxidized silver frame in Neoclassical style

About the Item

This oval shaped frame is attributable to the Neoclassical style recognized as the 'Louis XVI' style (1780). Hand-carved and plated in oxidized silver leaf, this beautiful Italian piece features an elegant bow-shaped bay leaf garland, unlike common frames of this period. On its profile, this frame features woodcarving imitating the shape of a twisted rope. As previously said, this piece is attributable to the late neoclassical period, known as the 'Louis XVI' style, which was largely inspired by the classical styles of ancient Rome and Greece. This configured the triumph of the 'straight line' and the cut of decorative elements in contraposition to the Baroque period. This particular piece is in good conservative state, and in case of purchase, we will carry out a small treatment with a virgin beeswax mix produced by us. This object can be handled without risk of breakage and can be readapted as a mirror or frame. This piece has been restored in modern days by Claudia Fontana. Daughter of the Roman Maestro Alfredo Fontana, Claudia learned this antique art of restoration from the hard lessons of her father, in a Bottega in the centre of Rome. The great influence of pieces that have come by the Bottega enriched the cultural and historical knowledge of the Fontana's, who have spent their lives in bringing back to life ancient pieces of furniture. Claudia's philosophy and work ethic make this process a pure form of art: attention to details, historical research and knowledge combined with a grand amount of patience makes it possible for us, nowadays, to touch, feel and envision the aesthetics of a world that used to be. All of her restoring techniques are in fact focused on regenerating pieces to be structurally solid, but maintaining the original aesthetic as much as possible.
