About the Item

Elegant Art Deco picture photo frame. Large Macassar veneer base with picture hold in position by tiny chrome-plated beads. Easel and back in wood. Attributed to French designer Albert Guenot (1894-1993), for Pomone, Le Bon Marche Department Store Decoration Studio during the Art Deco period. Measurements: Overall: 11 in. wide (28 cm) x 13.38 in. high (34 cm) Opening (photo size): 7.07 in. wide (18 cm) x 9.44 in. high (24 cm) Reference: Albert Guenot (1894-1993): French decorator and designer, born in Arcueil-Cachan. Studied at the Ecole Boulle, Paris. He worked as designer in Maurice Dufrene Studio, where he became familiar with the modern style. 1914-1918, worked with Laurent Malcles and study wood carving, in 1920 he studied sculpture with Paul Follot, in 1922, he worked for Edgar Brandt, and briefly for architect Rene Crevel. From 1923 and for the rest of his career, he worked for the design studio Pomone at Le Bon Marche in Paris. He became the "foreman" under the direction of Paul Follot. In 1932 he succeeded to Rene Prou as director of the design studio, where he remained until 1955. Albert Guenot has designed the interiors of The Hotel George V in Paris, the Ocean-liner Normandie in 1935 and the Ocean-liner France in 1961. Pomone: French design studio established in 1922 at the Bon Marche department store in Paris. In 1922, when the decorative arts were at their high point in France, the Pomone design and decorating department was established, following the trend of other Parisian department stores. From 1923–1928, Paul Follot (1877–1941) was its director, followed by Rene-Lucien Prou (1889–1948) and Albert-Lucien Guenot (1894–1993) up to 1955.
