Marcello Furlan Murano Art Glass Picture Frame, Italy 1990s
About the Item
Marcello Furlan designed this beautiful Murano art glass picture frame for L.I.P. in Italy in 1991. The heavy and substantial blown glass framing boasts transparent amethyst purple colored glass with black glass detailing. The back and the easel are in clear acrylic. The original L.I.P. sticker is still present on the back. The engraved signature underside reads Marcello Furlan 91.

Overall: 8.69 in wide (22 cm) x 4.32 in deep (11 cm) x 9.25 in high (23.5 cm)

Born in Venice in 1962 to a Murano family, he owes his passion for blown glass to his father, a famous Italian master glassmaker. In 1984, after studying architecture for several years at Venice University, he began working in his family’s glass business. He was responsible for designing and developing new decorative glass features and objects. In 1998, he started a career as a designer of lighting fixtures, in parallel with his other career as a freelance graphic artist in advertising. His research, which stems from the study of natural and organic elements, has reinterpreted the traditional, classic form of the Venetian chandelier in a contemporary vein, developing modern solutions increasingly free from convention.
