Exceptional and rare vintage Italian crystal frame; very particular is its realization, in fact, it is made of two very thick and very high quality very thick and with extraordinary transparency, crystal slabs, in the back rectangular one has been placed a panel of sturdy brown cardboard, worked like leather, which supports the photo and works as a stand for the whole frame; at the corners of this crystal slab are placed four solid brass supports, worked with elegant beading and small flowers, these useful supports, hold up the front crystal slab, this one has a refined curvilinear shaping and in the sides, it bears engraved and ground floral decorations. It was made between 1950 and 1955 by an artisan workshop in Colle di Val d'Elsa (Siena-Italy) where great glassmakers created this product of excellence, an example of the highest profile made in Italy; its essential design, clean geometries, and elegant lines tell us a story of passion, care for quality and attention to detail, made of Italian taste and craftsmanship. Colle di Val d'Elsa, in the province of Siena, in the region of Tuscany (Italy), is renowned for its long tradition of glass and crystal production. The town has a rich history of craftsmanship dating back centuries, making it an important center for the production of high-quality glass and crystal objects. In Colle di Val d'Elsa, skilled artisans have preserved ancient glassmaking techniques, including the art of creating crystal objects such as glasses, vases, and decorative pieces by hand. The town is known for its dedication to traditional methods and its ability to combine these ancient techniques with contemporary design, resulting in unique and elegant crystal products. Our frame comes with a 19th-century print depicting Marie Antoinette of Habsburg-Lorraine, wife of Louis XVI, King of France (1774-1792), who was guillotined on October 16, 1793; an iconic figure in European history because of her tragic fate, and her image and memory were the subject of various artistic representations; nineteenth-century artworks depicting an angel placing a crown of stars and a laurel wreath on Marie Antoinette's head may reflect the way some artists wanted to idealize Marie Antoinette as an almost mystical or angelic figure, emphasizing her suffering and martyr status. The crowns of stars and laurel might symbolize her nobility, virtue, and tragic fate. The frame is in good condition. Measures width cm.27, height cm.33, depth cm.3, photo size cm.9 x 15.
