About the Item

Ceramic abstract sculpture made by Alessio Tasca in the 1970s The sculture is in very good conditions. Alessio Tasca, born in Vicenza in 1929 and died in 2020, was an Italian designer, ceramist and teacher. His favorite activity from an early age was drawing, in which he improved more and more by attending the studio of the painter and ceramist Giovanni Petucco and the local art school, specialized in ceramics, directed by the sculptor and ceramist Andrea Parini, of whom he was student. On 24 October 1948, together with his brothers Marco and Flavio, he opened a workshop called “Tasca Artigiani Ceramisti” and began to prepare various models inspired by the Novese tradition. The commercial failure of these models prompted the young Alessio to bring a cycle of modern ceramics, to be addressed to a different market, which was more suited to the post-war needs of renewal. Hence the first plates decorated with "graffito" on a green or brown background. Several years later he broke away from the family-run workshop and in October 1961 he opened his own atelier, where he dedicated himself to the forging of a cycle of large-sized unique pieces, returning to actual sculpture. During his life he exhibited several of his works at the Venice Biennale, which in 1946 was awarded the first prize for ceramics; and at the Milan Triennale. In 1974 he conceived the first large sculptures: thus was born the cycle of "spheres" obtained from an extruded cylinder on a grid matrix. In 1986 he made a new cycle of stoneware and refractory sculptures, inaugurating a new phase of his work centered on the expressive value of ruin and drift.
