Fórcola da Poppa Wood Sculpture, Saverio Pastor, Le Fórcole, 2005

About the Item

A stunning large scale wood "Fórcola da Poppa" by Italian Remèr (Oar Maker) Saverio Pastor. A Fórcola is a Venetian rowlock or oar that traditionally helps maneuver Gondolas and other Venetian boats. Each fórcola has a distinct and specialized purpose depending on the position of the boat and how many oarsmen are involved. The "Fórcola da Poppa" or stern oar, is the the main fórcola positioned at the stern of the boat. This particular example is quite large, measuring 38.5" tall overall with stand. Signed on the back of the piece and stamped 27 05. Produced in 2005. Wood is in excellent condition with a light oil finish.
