Massive Venetian abstract sculptures in solid walnut "Forcola (Oarlock)" by Giuseppe Carli, dated 1961. Carli is recognized as one of the leading "Remeri" of Venice, an elite group of Venetian artisans who sculpt forcoli. Most of Carli's major works belong to private collectors or are exhibited in museums worldwide. These pieces are signed and dated on the base. it comes with a display pedestal measuring 30 cm D x 40 cm L x The total height of the sculpture inserted into the base is 83 cm H. A forcola is an oarlock used on Venetian gondolas, providing different points of support for rowing the boat due to its curved shape. This distinctive form gives them highly decorative as well as functional value. This piece is a "traditional" rear forcola made for Venetian gondolas. A magnificent and rare piece!
