Masami Kodama Modernist Carrera Marble Granite Steel Sculpture Signed, 1970s MCM

About the Item

This beautiful sculpture is made of polished Carrera marble set on a turned granite base by a solid steel post. It strikes a sophisticated balance between elegance, utilitarianism, and modernism, which allows it to fit in in any home. Incised signature "M. Kodama" Born in Hiroshima in 1933, Masami Komada experienced strife and war in his home country for the most of his childhood. Having survived the bombing of Hiroshima, he decided that he wanted to reflect his feelings in art. For example, his Pink Möbius represents his resentment towards the never ending and convoluted nature of violence and war. This a piece with real soul in it. The condition is very good for its age. There's some faint yellowing and minor flee bites to various edges. Please note that this piece weighs over 100lbs.
