Artist: Manel Galià.
There is something of art brut and art singulier in Manel's work, something that touches deeply. He has been able to distance himself from his masters and escape the confines of academicism, touching the roots of Being to convey emotion.
I was fascinated by Manel's work because, like true artists, Manel is a visionary. Like the shamans who fascinated me in Central America, where, as my writer friend Ernesto Endara kindly says, I was bewitched by the spirits of the jungle, Manel Galià also seems to be connected to the invisible world. His gracefully rotating hanging sculptures seem the materialisation of a dream world, a world to which we are sensitive but which only a chosen few or artists are able to perceive more intuitively.
Manel's sculptures evoke our moods, inviting us to introspection and fantasy. And there they are... in the figure seated on half a bench, in the embracing couples that evoke infinite tenderness, in the reclining dreamers and in the bodies that fly with grace, fantasy or sadness.
Although the body has been so often approached by artists, Manel Galià manages to express the essence of feelings with grace, sensitivity and clairvoyance. He invites us to introspective contemplation. Each sculpture resonates in us, leaving no room for indifference.
