Tlakatl Sculptural Chair by Mesawa

About the Item

Tlakatl Sculptural Chair by Mesawa Materials: Volcanic stone. Dimensions: D 62 x W 85 x H 150 cm. Mesawa is a Mexican design brand created by architect Santiago Sierra and designer Diego Linares. Mesawa is the result of deep reflection and incessant experimentation that gives life to unprecedented contrasts, achieving the most refined treatment of its raw material, steel, in contrast with materials of different nature to create pieces of modern and minimalist character. Our latest “volcanic” series focuses on versatility, materiality, design and cultural expression of Mexico by combining steel with volcanic stone to achieve a degree of absolute experimentation in modern furniture. Behind Mesawa there is a story of complicity between two friends motivated to create pieces that fulfill their function, not only decorative, but also of specific use: a piece of furniture is a piece of furniture until it is useful to a person. For the brand, the identity of the furniture is transmitted through its simplicity and subtlety in the outline of each of its lines that are represented by the steel structure.

  • KETL XL Coffee Table by Mesawa
    Located in Geneve, CH
KETL XL Coffee Table by Mesawa Unique piece. Dimensions: W 120 x D 120 x H 45 cm. Materials: Volcanic rock. Weight: 700 kg. Since each piece is crafted by hand, there may be slight variations in weight and dimensions that make each item unique. Additionally, the composition of the rock itself can affect its weight and dimensions, which is why it is important to note that these may vary from product to product. However, we do strive to ensure that all items meet our quality standards and are as close to the advertised weight and dimensions as possible. Please contact us. Carefully selected volcanic rock, hand-picked from the rugged slopes of the volcano Popocatepetl, has been masterfully crafted by a skilled artisan’s chisel and saw, resulting in a truly unique monolithic artful creation. This new functional sculptural collection creates a unique tactile experience that allows you to feel the volume of each piece and opens up a natural connection with the histor y of the rock. We have concentrated on using rocks from the volcano Popocatepetl in Mexico to deepen our connection with our land and bring a piece of nature into our homes. Our inspiration comes from both the histor y of Mexico and our own childhood memories. The design of our Ketl coffee table is inspired by the memor y of an upside-down beetle, struggling unsuccessfully to return to its normal position on a hot day in Mexico City. We brought this memory to life by sculpting a rock in such a way that it reflects this petrified beetle’s failed attempt to stand up straight. • Bronze Sculptural Panama Chair, 21st Century by Mattia Biagi
    By Mattia Biagi
    Located in Culver City, CA
"Panama Bronze" is an art and design project, the result of the collaboration between the artist Mattia Biagi and Promemoria. The artist has poured hot tar on a real Panama chair, to bring the object closer to the material and to make it melt in the ground. Mattia Biagi has created what he himself called the "polarity of destruction and conservation". "Although the melted tar destroys the object it touches, in this case, the Panama chair - an elegant and finely crafted object - it simultaneously preserves it in its new and very different form". This is how the original silhouette of the Panama chair was turned into its new incarnation. Thanks to its experience in working with bronze, Promemoria has helped Mattia to refine his work of art, transforming the iconic Panama chair, designed by Romeo...
