Stefan Einar Thorén, born 12 February 1927 in Stockholm, died 19 January 1997 in Kvarsebo, Norrköping,[2] was a Swedish sculptor, draughtsman and painter.
He studied with Otte Sköld and Eric Grate at the Royal College of Art from 1948 to 1953. As a Jenny Lind Scholar, he stayed in Athens from 1954 to 1955 and then made study trips to Paris and London. Separately, he exhibited at Galerie Blanche in Stockholm and in Västerås. Together with Sigfrid Södergren he exhibited at Färg och Form in 1954[3][4] and with his wife in Kalmar in 1965. He participated in the Nationalmuseum's exhibition Young Drawers 1949-1950, the Swedish General Art Society's Spring Salons in Stockholm, the exhibition Sculptures in Nature shown in Norrviken Gardens and the Stockholm Salons of Liljevalch Art Gallery.
His public works include the marble relief The Play of Surfaces at Brännkyrka School and the 18-metre-long marble relief Dance and Seriousness for the Västerås Folkets House, as well as marble reliefs for the Thule House in Västerås and the Skandiakon Group's house in Kalmar. For Olofström Chapel in Blekinge, he created an altar wall in welded, red-painted iron plate, and for Enskede Vocational School he created the sculpture group Skärmarna. His pictorial art consists of portraits and motifs taken from nature, executed in gouache. As a sculptor, he worked in bronze, wood, plaster, stone and marble.
