About the Item

Territorio 2.3.74 - III We discovered organic plaster stucco when we arrived at our workshop in Seville. Artisans dedicated to the world of Holy Week in Seville work in the same space and the "gilder's stucco", as it is also called, has been used for hundreds of years to coat wood before applying gold leaf or paint to carved pieces of art. After cutting and assembling the pieces of wood that make up the piece we have applied layer by layer with a brush more than 15 layers of this soft and delicate mixture, allowing us to cover with texture forms that a priori are flat and lacking in volume. Layer by layer the piece takes on dimensions and textures, becomes organic, thickens in a natural way, generating light and shadow in the sculpture. We have thus created a solid body, a territory, like a shield, concentric, ritual and alive, whose forms become blurred after the application of the material. For us, the result is a play of light and shadow, of heights and textures, with a malleable and sinuous appearance, as if it were a map of the terrain. It does not pretend to be the reflection of a territory, nor a model, nor the representation of anything. It is the volume of the concentric, like an archaic ritual, interstellar and unknown, which at the same time is so close and which can envelop and enclose our own thoughts within this form. A territory where the limits are blurred and reality is mixed with reverie; a frontier where space-time is diluted and past, present and future are mixed as a reality that resembles the similar and that forms part of our imaginary without having been seen before. It is in this liminal zone where once again the pieces of this collection "INTERZONA" created by Las Ánimas are situated. Works that speak of parallel worlds, of shamanic futurism and that oscillate between popular culture and a ritual world, on a thin line between the rational and the dreamlike. Objects that seek to activate the subconscious and the collective memory with a totemic and ceremonial character. An aesthetic universe full of sumptuousness, textures, volumes, colours, mysticism and concentric shapes that seek to expand the consciousness and make the mind wander on an inner journey without beginning.
