19th Century French Spelter Clock and Cow Composition Signed E. Picault

About the Item

Decorate an office with this large, patinated white metal sculpture with clock titled "La Moisson" (the harvest). Crafted in France, the antique composition stands on a red marble base, and features a farmer holding his bull during the wheat harvest with a clock underneath. Both man and bovine figures are standing on rocky ground further decorated with a sickle and wheat bundles. The work of art is signed on the side by the sculptor, E. Picault. The tall and elegant spelter sculpture is in excellent condition commensurate with age and use, and adorns a rich patinated bronze finish. It would make a nice addition to a bookshelf in a study, or to a ranch house. Emile Louis Picault (1833-1915) was a French sculptor, best known for works depicting allegorical and patriotic subjects, mythological heroes, and some animals sculptures. Picault was a very prolific artist, producing many sculptures during his long sculpting career. He began to show his artwork at the Salon beginning in 1863. He signed the majority of his work as "E. Picault". Measures: 19" W x 10.5" D x 21" H.
