20th Century Italian Pure 970 Silver Duck with golden beak and paws

About the Item

Pure silver duck made with the lost wax technique. The duck was made with the "lost wax" technique which allows the creation of a specific item very close to "pure silver." This technique also allows the object that is created to be almost completely faithful to the original. In this case, the details of the body and specifically the plumage of the duck are close to perfection. The finish is in bright silver while some details, such as the beak, legs and eyes have been covered in pure gold The duck is a very frequent object as a decorative ornament in Italian homes or ideal as a gift idea. Made by FAF (Fabbrica Argenteria Firenze). Florence - Italy for ARVAL ARGENTS VALENCE The lost wax casting method is still used in the silverware sector. A reproduction of the object is made of wax. Then the inlet/outlet channels (always in wax) are added and the plaster mold specially designed for this operation is made. To favor the perfect adhesion of the plaster to the waxes and the elimination of air bubbles, the full cylinder can be placed on a vibrating plate and then subjected to the action of vacuum under a bell connected to a pump. This mold (which usually to contain the costs of plaster, contains many objects, arranged in a "cluster" around a central channel) is heated in an oven, so that the wax (for this operation usually takes the oven to 200 ° C) comes out of the channels, once the wax has come out, the molten metal can be poured into the mold. It is important to heat the plaster mold in order to prevent the metal from splashing out of it. After the metal cast inside the mold has solidified, the gypsum is broken and the various objects are separated from the central channel with the aid of a cutter or a goldsmith's hacksaw, the inlet/outlet channels are also eliminated. At this point, the jewels can be finished by polishing or other processes until the final object is obtained.

In 1630, aged about 20, he went to Paris to join the French Guards on the recommendation of a relative of his mother, the lord of Tréville, who also appears in Dumas' novels as his protector . It was at this time that the young Charles decided to adopt the surname d'Artagnan, that of his mother's family. The paternal branch in fact belonged to the bourgeoisie, and Charles preferred to use the surname that would have given him more prestige. Thus it was that the royal d'Artagnan did 15 years of military service until Cardinal Mazarin...
