About the Item
Expressive hand sculpted bird sculpture decorated with dancing female figurines on both sides, in orange and green glazed ceramic is signed A. Smit 1971, Netherlands. This hand formed ceramic sculpture is in the style of the famous Dutch Cobra artist Karel Appel. For Cobra artist experimentation was the symbol of an unfettered freedom, which, according to Constant, was ultimately embodied by children and the expressions of children. The primary focus of the group consisted of semi-abstract paintings with brilliant color, violent brushwork, and distorted human figures inspired by primitive and folk art.
