Couple of Elephants by Charles Lemanceau at Saint-Clement's, France, 1920s. A beautiful example of French art ceramics, this pair of elephants by Charles Lemanceau was produced at the Saint-Clement's factory around 1935. The sculpture depicts a mother elephant with her young, capturing a tender and graceful moment in nature. Known for his ability to bring life to ceramic forms, Lemanceau’s work is characterized by both elegance and subtle expression.

Born in 1905 in Paris. Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris after school. Laureate of Ecole Estienne, Ecole Boulle and Ecole des Arts appliques.
In 1923, he works for Primavera. In 1925, he exhibits in the Salon d'Automne with his fellows : Eugene Printz, Louis Sognot, Van Dongen, Vlaminck, Raoul Dufy, Jean Dunand, Henri Matisse, Le Corbusier, Jules Leleu, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Fernand Leger and Maurice Utrillo. In this period, he works for Saint-Clement and DIM. From 1930, for Maurice Dufrene, Primavera and Sainte-Radegonde.
Specialist of animal sculptures, he is one of the most important sculptors in the French Art Deco period.

Charles Lemanceau
Charles Lemanceau was born in 1905 in Paris. In 1923, he worked for Primavera. In 1925, he exhibited in the Salon d'Automne with his fellows Eugene Printz, Louis Sognot, Van Dongen, Vlaminck, Raoul Dufy, Jean Dunand, Henri Matisse, Le Corbusier, Jules Leleu, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Fernand Leger and Maurice Utrillo. In this period, he worked for Saint-Clement and DIM. From 1930, he worked for Maurice Dufrene, Primavera and Sainte-Radegonde. He was a specialist of animal sculptures, and is one of the most important sculptors in the French Art Deco period.
