French Art Deco horse statue by Charles Lemanceau at Sainte-Radegonde, France, 1930s. This piece was illustrated in the Sainte-Radegonde catalog, page #6. Ceramic sculpture named "Au poteau" that means "At the winning post". This stunning and very rare piece will delight lovers of horse racing or turfists. A MUST for collectors! Width: 22.8"(58cm), Height: 11.8"(30cm), Depth : 5.9"(15cm). Signed "L. Charles" on the base (see photo), L Charles for Lemanceau Charles. Illustrated in Les Craquelés Art Deco, A.R. Hardy and B. Giardi, Editions Penthesilia, 2009, page #37.
Born in 1905 in Paris. Grand Prix de la Ville de Paris after school. Laureate of Ecole Estienne, Ecole Boulle and Ecole des Arts appliques.
In 1923, he works for Primavera. In 1925, he exhibits in the Salon d'Automne with his fellows : Eugene Printz, Louis Sognot, Van Dongen, Vlaminck, Raoul Dufy, Jean Dunand, Henri Matisse, Le Corbusier, Jules Leleu, Robert Mallet-Stevens, Fernand Leger and Maurice Utrillo. In this period, he works for Saint-Clement and Dim. From 1930, for Maurice Dufrene, Primavera and Sainte-Radegonde. Specialist of animal sculptures, he is one of the most important sculptors in the French Art Deco period.
