Drinking Vessel from an Ostrich Egg, Italy, 1800



A natural example of a Wunderkammer, an ostrich egg cupped on the back of an elephant. On the upper part of the lid, there is a small branch of red Mediterranean coral (Corallium Rubrum). Base in silvered bronze, Italy, 1780-1820.
