Edward Lindahl for Gustavsberg Knip Wink Owl Sweden 1960s

About the Item

Warm-hearted, humorous winking owl figurine was designed in 1962 by Edward Lindahl for Gustavsberg as a part of Minerva series. The series consists of three stoneware owls with swelling forms and earthy-colored mottled glaze expression; the owls are Knip (Wink), Burr (Ruffle), and Klot (Sphere). The pieces were decorated by hand, making each one unique. Edward Lindahl (1907-1986) is renown as an illustrator and graphic designer, but he also designed animal figurines for Sweden’s leading ceramic factories. The figurine is marked on the bottom with the Gustavsberg studio logo - hand, and artist initials - EL.
