French Bronze by André Vincent Becquerel Sculpture of Ibex Rare

About the Item

This piece stands 30 inches tall, a very statuesque pose for the Ibex, the fur and body details are also well defined as one can imagine this wild mountain goat in the most natural of settings. Very fine original condition. This rare piece, for the more advanced collector, as striking as it is unusual, would look great by itself or as part of a collection of the many great French and Belgian sculptors specializing in “animal” representation. André Vincent Becquerel (1893-1981) Becquerel was born in northern France. He attended the École des Beaux-arts in Paris and studied in the ateliers of Hector Lemaître and Prosper Lecourtier, the Animalier sculptor. He also worked with Charles Valton, who had studied under both Barye and Fremiet, two other renowned animalier sculptors. He began exhibiting at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1914 and continued to do so for the rest of his career. In 1944 Becquerel was awarded a bronze medal by The ‘Artistes Français and a gold medal in 1945. In 1952 he won the Prix de l’Yser, which made him hors Concours and thus above the future competition process.
