Gertrud Kudielka Danish JL Hjorth Large White Glazed Pottery Elephant

About the Item

A very impressive and large Danish Art Deco L Hjorth (Bornholm) art pottery elephant decorated in white glazes by Gertrud Kudielka (1896-1984) and dating from around 1930. This large stoneware elephant is naturalistically modelled in a standing pose with large tusks and holding its trunk in. The figure is very well characterized with good proportions with molded features and is decorated in a creamy white glaze with unglazed feet. The elephant has various impressed marks to the underside of two In good condition with a fine surface firing hairline running along the back spine of the elephant.
