About the Item
Large French Art Deco terracotta sculpture by Henri Bargas, France, 1930s. Tiger. Measures: Width : 24.4"(62cm), Height : 9.8"(25cm), Depth : 5.3"(13.4cm). Signed "H.Bargas" on the base (see photo).
Henri Bargas, born in Paris at the end of the 19th century, was active in the 1920s and 1930s.
He studied with André Vermare and worked with Jacques-Emile Ruhlmann, and with Edouard-Marcel Sandoz at the "Jardin des Plantes" for the study of animals. In the 1930s, he exhibited at the Salon des Artistes Français in Paris. Beyond his animal production, his sculptures are essentially inspired by Greek art and the works of Emile-Antoine Bourdelle.
