About the Item
An Italian carved wood Pompeian style deer from the mid-20th century, with cream finish. Born in Italy during the second quarter of the 20th century, this Pompeian style carved deer found its inspiration in two bronze sculptures found in 1756 in the garden of the Villa dei Papiri in Herculaneum, Pompeii's neighbouring city destroyed during Mount Vesuvius' eruption in 79 AD. Presenting a soft hue, this carved wooden statue touches our heart with its simple yet elegant depiction, the animal standing alert on its four paws. Raised on a rectangular pedestal, this Italian wooden sculpture circa 1940 will bring a charming touch to any décor.
