Original Bronze Puffin Bird Statue Entitled Showtime by Mary and Jacques Regat

About the Item

Captivating, original polychrome bronze sculpture on a pivoting black marble base entitled "Showtime" by artist duo, Jacques and Mary Regat. Sculpture features a single Puffin bird standing on a rock with its' wings outspread. This is a limited edition bronze of only 100 pieces made. Signed by both artists on the rock, dated 2004 and numbered 81/100. A similar Puffin bronze, but smaller in size and with no pivoting marble base, entitled "Little Mister Big Shot" is currently selling for $4275.00. A poem written by the artists, reads: High on the rocks, Beside the boisterous sea, Perched a comical puffin, As proud as could be, He preened and puffed and fished as he pleased, Whimsical clown of the sea. About the artists: Jacques Regat graduated from the College d' Ensignment Technique De Vitry, France. He apprenticed with an Italian carver and a Chinese decorator. In Alaska, while sharing his talent at the Native Welcome Center, he developed a strong kinship and respect for the cultural myths and history of its’ people. This became an inspirational theme reflected in many of his works. He graduated cum laude from the University of Alaska in Anchorage with a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts and a minor degree in Anthropology. Mary Regat, primarily a self-taught artist, began sculpting while living in a remote logging camp on Prince of Wales Island in Southeast Alaska. Her first efforts were a 28-foot dug out canoe. Traveling north she took up residence in Anchorage, Alaska and began sculpting in stone. Her style is expressive and impressionistic, capturing the emotions and moods of her subjects.  While living in Anchorage, Alaska, Jacques and Mary met and married. They began combining their talents together to create pieces which extended beyond what either one could do alone. Working side by side on some projects and also maintaining their independent pieces, they have created a beautiful and varied collection of bronze works. Together they studied art at the University of Alaska, Mayan Toltec art in Central and South America and European art in France.
